Project Tour: A 1920’s Tudor Estate for Today – Part I

Nov 3, 2020

There are so many reasons we may choose to take on a project. It may be the property, the family, the style, or just the opportunity to do something we’ve never done before. For Project Stratford, we were enamored by the original architecture, and the beauty of the surrounding property. Lush gardens and mature trees give our client and his family an idyllic escape from the frenetic pace of the city just 30 minutes away. We’re excited to show you the first of three installments from this stunning project!

Upon entering the home through the sun-filled foyer, beautifully restored herringbone flooring lays the foundation while modern art greets the homeowner with bold color and movement. We revised the staircase to reflect a more modern silhouette. (photography by John Bessler)

In what would traditionally be the parlor, we created multiple seating areas with classic upholstery shapes and modern fabrics in soothing earth tones punctuated by deep greens and soft blues. On the wall separating the parlor from the gentleman’s bar, we used graphic large scale artwork to make a powerful statement.

We loved the lightly tufted bench seat of this sofa.

This private study/library gives our client a comfortable place to work, take phone calls, watch television, or read and relax away from the busy first floor common spaces. The chairs and desk set the tone for a decidedly more modern mix. The custom milllwork holds books and entertainment with a stylish profile.

The family’s dining room features an oversized round dining table that allows for ample seating and vibrant conversation, but the star is definitely the center chandelier from Donghia. Intricately cut glass casts a lovely warm glow across the room wrapped with Phillip Jeffries wall covering and filled with one of a kind furniture and objet.
