5 Splashy Summer Trends for your Home

Jul 8, 2020

While Memorial Day and the recent 4th of July celebrations may not have been everything we would have hoped, Summer is still here, and we intend to make the most of it. As we make our way to the beaches and countryside for some socially distanced outdoor fun, we are still finding ourselves spending more time at home than ever! With that in mind, we’ve been pouring over the latest home trends to make a Summer splash in your home.

1.       Floral is our Friend – For the last year or so, we’ve seen a rush of beautiful floral prints that have inspired us in our own projects. From traditional Schumacher patterns for our new country club client to daring tropicals by EGID fav Manuel Canovas, these splashy prints add a dose of fun with tons of color! We love it on the walls and windows, and even on that comfy occasional chair you’ve been dying to reupholster. Don’t be afraid to mix it up for true maximalist flair.

2.       Copper-top – It’s definitely been peeking in, but this summer’s hottest metal is warm, rich, buttery copper.  We’re seeing it in so many categories, that it’s almost becoming a new neutral! Adding lighting with copper stems and domes is an easy way to bring some warmth without the yellowy tone of brass. We also see it in the kitchen on appliances and hardware. So gorgeous!

3.       Green Is the new Black – Since its Pantone Color of the Year intro in 2017 shades of Green(ery) have been growing and look like they’re here for the long haul. From kitchen islands in a deep bluey green, wallcoverings in textured emerald, and fabrics in springy, grass green, these verdant shades take us to the outdoors with just one look!

4.       Hygge Style – Scandinavian design, marked by a focus on clean, simple lines, minimalism, and functionality without sacrificing beauty, has never really gone out of style. Couldn’t we all use a little simple, carefree living space in our home? Since Scandinavians also deeply value nature and spending time outdoors, wood floors tend to remain uncovered and furniture stained in lighter wooden tones. And, of course, live plants are a great choice when it comes to really bringing the outdoors in.

5.       Crazy for Ceramics – Handcrafted small-batch ceramics are everywhere these days. You see them in trendy main street boutiques, displayed beautifully and ready to take home! What makes these pieces so special is their one-of-a-kindness (is that such a thing?). With so much duplication out there, it’s a small, but meaningful way to bring someone’s art into your home. We love to collage several vessels together on a lonely windowsill. For the dining table, handcrafted dinnerware can make a statement on any table. Take a road trip through the Hudson Valley where you can find treasures around every corner!
